Room Story - from Tulleys
It's 1926 here in Chicago, and depression is still rife. Jobs are few and far between and the Prohibition has been in force for six years now. Everyone still drinks, nothin' has changed. But now the mob control the streets, the supply and the money. The influence of the Outfit is far reaching. Most of the cops are even under their control. Who can put them in the joint? You can, that's who.
The Commissioner has put together a special task force of straight, trusted cops and you're on the team. You've spent the last few months infiltrating their network and now tonight is the night to get the evidence you need to put them away forever. But it won't be easy, your cover might be blown!

The Outfitters was our 2nd game at Tulleys. After playing Mutiny and a brief break looking at the goats and guinea fowl , we headed into the game after our briefing.
This game actually had a very similar start to Mutiny, starting in a compact space with the primary task involving searching. The first space is themed like an upmarket tailor with a strong smell of leather adding to the sense of realism. After a thorough search and a bit of puzzling, we made our way to the main part of the game.
To avoid spoilers, I’m going to talk about a key stand-out element of the game up-front: hidden spaces. In keeping with the mafia/prohibition style theming, this game has lots of hidden spaces to explore. As you make progress through the game you uncover more and more, discovering that the game has an extremely large amount of space to play in. We absolutely loved this feature and the excitement of finding more and more.
In terms of puzzles, there’s a really good variety with all of them fitting well to the theme of the game. Keen observation was the main skillset that was needed. There was one particular puzzle I loved that involved paying close attention to a very large feature in the room whilst working together as a team in different locations – that’s about as specific as I can be without spoiling it.
The theming of this game is absolutely flawless – every space you uncover looks and smells realistic, the puzzles in each space are aligned to theme and the quality of the decoration and props could easily fool you into thinking The Outfitters was real!
We needed a few clues along the way. These were delivered via a voiceover, with the host doing a great voice acting job to give us clues in a thick Italian-American accent.
The only improvement I’d make to this game is the ending. There was a sequence involving items we’d collected throughout the game in which I expected something bigger to happen. We could have actually exited the game before completing the task, but we were only stopped by the host intervening. Because of the intervention, the ending felt a little bit guided.
The Outfitters has to go down as one of our favourite games to-date. The immaculate theming, excellent puzzles and large amount of space to explore made this an exciting game that constantly surprised. We loved uncovering hidden spaces and the whole idea of a hidden world behind a respectable shopfront. Highly recommended!
